Dolphins Drop Overtime Heartbreaker At Old Westbury

Old Westbury, N.Y.The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer team dropped a hard fought 2-1 heartbreaker in overtime at Old Westbury on Thursday afternoon in its Skyline Conference opener. Joshua Zumbado (Bronx, N.Y.) picked up the goal for the Dolphins, the first of his career.

 

Zumbado got the Mount on the board and gave the Dolphins a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute when he finished off a pass from Andres Romero (Port Chester, N.Y.). The helper from Romero was his team leading third of the season.

 

The one goal lead would stand for the Dolphins for just under two minutes when Old Westbury's Christopher Barbosa scored on a feed from Victor Farfan to knot the score at 1-1. The game would remain tied until the first extra period when Steven Green scored at the 96:30 mark to send Old Westbury to the win.

 

Both goalkeepers played strong games on Thursday with Javier Mandujano (Norwalk, Conn.) taking the tough luck loss after making six saves for the Dolphins. Old Westbury's Pablo Diaz made three stops in the winning effort.

 

For the match, Old Westbury held a commanding edge in shots at 25-6. The Panthers also took five of the six corner kicks in the contest, while fouls were whistled 16-10 against the home standing Panthers.

 

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 1-2-1 overall on the season and to 0-1 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will look to rebound on Saturday when they host Purchase. The game will be played at Purchase with kick-off set for 3:00 p.m.
