The Dolphins were not able to score in the opening quarter against the Privateers and trailed 3-0 after the first 15 minutes. Mount Saint Vincent would respond to outscore Maritime 4-2 in the second frame to head into halftime trailing by just a goal at 5-4. Ajao, Dan Cohen (Ardsley, N.Y.), Cavan Valance (Glen Cove, N.Y.) and Rowan Frederick (Brooklyn, N.Y.) all tallied for the Dolphins in the second.
Frederick would knot the score at 5-5 in the opening minutes of the third quarter, but the Mount would manage only two more markers in the second half. The Privateers outscored the Dolphins 7-3 after halftime, including 3-1 in the fourth quarter, to secure their third league win of the season.
Ajao and Frederick were the only two players to find the back of the cage more then once for the Dolphins in the game, with Ajao leading the team with his four points. Frederick also added an assist for the Dolphins and finished the day with three points.
Ajao closed out a strong afternoon by picking up a team-high seven groundballs in the contest. Derek Valance (Glen Cove, N.Y.) finished with six and Russ Holland (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scooped five for the Dolphins.
Maritime (5-7, 3-1 Skyline) was led by Stephen Doherty and Ryan Korb who each scored four times. John Driscoll added a pair of markers for the Privateers and Jesse de Boer led the way with a game-high three assists. Matthew Messina led Maritime with six groundballs.
Nuzzi finished with at least 10 saves for the 12th time in 14 games this season for the Dolphins with his 13 on Saturday. He also picked up two groundballs for the Dolphins. Colin Gallagher earned the win by making eight saves for the Privateers.
Mount Saint Vincent outshot Maritime in the game 40-36 and finished with a two groundball advantage at 36-34. The Privateers won 14 of the 23 face-offs in the game, with Driscoll winning all of those. Chris Guastamacchia (Goshen, N.Y.) won the Mount's nine draws on the day and also finished with a pair of groundballs.
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent back to the .500 mark overall on the season at 7-7 and two 1-3 in Skyline Conference play. After a day off on Sunday, the Mount will return to the field on Monday night when it hosts league rival Montclair St. Face-off at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers is set for 7:00 p.m.
