Conference opener at Farmingdale St. on Tuesday afternoon by a score of 23-4. Four different Dolphins scored a goal in the contest and Ken Valentine (Centereach, N.Y.) picked up a team-high six groundballs.
After scoring the only four goals of the first quarter, Farmingdale St. blew the game open with 11 of the 12 goals scored in the second period. The Rams held a 15-0 lead until Rowan Frederick (Brooklyn, N.Y.) got the Dolphins on the board in the closing seconds of the second.
The Rams would pick right up where they left off in the second quarter after halftime, netting eight of the 11 goals over the final 30 minutes of action. Ahmed Ajao (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Miller Celestian (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Chris Guastamacchia (Goshen, N.Y.) all found the back of the cage for the Dolphins in the second half.
Farmingdale St. had eight different players score at least two goals in the game with Rob Nosworthy and Erick Thomson each scoring three times. Sean Maxwell won 14 face-offs for the Rams and Sean Martin came on the in the second half to make five saves.
Guastamacchia added seven face-off victories to his goal on Tuesday and Valentine also added seven caused turnovers. Mike Nuzzi (Westbury, N.Y.) made 11 saves in the cage for the Mount.
Overall in the game, Farmingdale St. held the advantage in shots 45-27 and in groundballs 58-36. The Dolphins won just nine of the 31 face-offs in the contest and finished the day 20-for-27 in clearing attempts.
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent back to .500 overall on the season at 5-5 and moves it to 0-1 in league play. The Dolphins will be back in action again at home for the first time in seven games when they host Kean on Saturday afternoon. Face-off for the Skyline Conference tilt is set for 1:00 p.m. at Tibbetts Brook Park.
