MONTCLAIR, NJ – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Lacrosse team was defeated in a Skyline Conference contest at Montclair State on Monday night by a score of 19-3.
Ryan O'Dougherty (Morristown, NJ) and
Mike Shea (Congers, NY) each scored a goal and added an assist for the Dolphins.
Montclair State opened the game by scoring the first 11 goals; including eight in the first quarter to take an 11-0 lead into halftime. O'Dougherty got the Dolphins on the board at the 9:38 mark of the third with an unassisted tally. The Dolphins would not score again until they put in two inside the last two minutes of the contest. Jason Reynolds (Centereach, NY) and Shea each scored even strength markers at the 1:47 and the 20 second mark, respectively.
Mike Nuzzi (Westbury, NY) played the full 60:00 in the cage for the Dolphins on Monday night. Nuzzi made 12 saves on the night, including seven in the first quarter. Nuzzi also picked up three groundballs for the Mount.
Cody Green (Waldwick, NJ) led the squad with six groundballs in the contest, while Ken Valentine (Centereach, NY) scooped up five for the Dolphins. James O'Connell (Elmont, NY) finished the game with four groundballs and O'Dougherty finished with three to go along with his two points.
The Montclair State scoring attack was led by Bryan Klimchak who finished with three goals. He was one of four Montclair players to record at least two goals in the game, as the Red Hawks improved to 10-4 overall and to 4-0 in the Skyline Conference. The win gives Montclair State the Skyline Conference regular season title.
Overall in the contest, Montclair State out shot the Dolphins 50-9, including a 31-7 edge in shots on goal. The Red Hawks also had the edge in groundballs at 44-25 and also won 20 of the 25 face-offs taken. Mount Saint Vincent went 0-1 in extra-man opportunities, while Montclair converted four of its seven chances with the extra man.
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 2-10 overall on the season and to 0-4 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Thursday when they head north to take on Saint Joseph's College of Maine. Face-off with the Monks is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Standish, Maine.
