Valance (Glen Cove, N.Y.) paced the Mount with a pair of goals.

 

The Cougars did not allow a goal in the first half and used a five goal first quarter to help them to a 7-0 advantage at the intermission. Misericordia would open a 9-0 lead in the third period before the Dolphins got back-to-back markers from Dan Cohen (Ardsley, N.Y.) and Ahmed Ajao (Brooklyn, N.Y.) to close the frame.

 

After the two teams combined for 11 goals in the first three periods, they combined to net 11 goals in the fourth quarter alone, with the Cougars outscoring the Mount 6-5 in the stanza. Valance netted both of his goals in the fourth, but Misericordia ran off three straight goals in the middle of the quarter to open a 14-3 lead as they would go on to the eight goal victory.

 

Valance was the only Dolphins player to record more then one point in the game with his two. Chris Guastamacchia (Goshen, N.Y.) and Ken Valentine (Centereach, N.Y.) each led the Mount with four groundballs each, with Guastamacchia winning four face-offs. Senior goalie Mike Nuzzi (Westbury, N.Y.) made 17 saves in the tilt, including six in the third quarter.

 

Misericordia had four players score three goals in the contest with Lee Blair adding a pair of assists for five points. Patrick McTague also recorded five points for the Cougars after scoring a goal and handing out four helpers.

 

For the game the Cougars held the advantage in shots 47-34 and also in groundballs 32-21. The Cougars won 18 face-offs in the contest with Joe Lodato winning each of those.

 

After opening the season 2-0, the Mount now stands at 2-3 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Saturday when they travel to Cazenovia. Face-off is slated for 1:00 p.m.
