Dolphins Drop Three Of Four At MIT Tournament

its four matches this past weekend at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Tournament. The Dolphins were downed by Emmanuel and the host Engineers on Saturday 3-0, before falling to Lasell 3-1 on Sunday. The Mount got into the win column with a 3-0 sweep of Mount Ida to close the tournament. Junior Rob Hockenjos (West Hempstead, N.Y.) recorded 38 kills in the four matches, while senior Chris Dotoratos (Bronx, N.Y.) handed out 91 assists.

In the opener against Emmanuel, freshman Justin Amaral (Warwick, R.I.) led the Dolphins with nine kills to go along with six defensive digs. John Furka (Massapequa, N.Y.), Matt Krauszer (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and Hockenjos all collected eight winners in the match, with Krauszer leading the way with eight digs. Furka paced the Mount with four total blocks and Dotoratos posted 24 assists.

Against the Engineers in the second match on Saturday, Hockenjos collected nine winners and matched the team-high with 11 digs. Krauszer finished the match with eight kills and eight digs and Furka and Amaral each notched six winners each. Furka matched Hockenjos with 11 digs to go along with a pair of total blocks and Dotoratos handed out 29 assists.

To open play on Sunday, the Mount had two players recorded double-figure kills against Lasell. Krauszer led the Mount with 12 winners and continued his solid play on the defensive end with five digs and four total blocks. Hockenjos collected 11 more winners for the Dolphins and also lifted four defensive digs. Dotoratos posted his weekend-high in assists with 32 against the Lasers.

The Dolphins closed out the tournament with a sweep of Mount Ida in which Amaral matched his career-high with 14 kills. He finished the match with a double-double as he also posted 11 digs to go along with a block assist. Hockenjos closed out a solid weekend with 10 winners and eight digs with Krauszer finishing with eight kills, five digs and a pair of service aces. Michael Quinn (Wantagh, N.Y.) was responsible for the setting duties and handed out 35 helpers in the win.

Following the weekend, Mount Saint Vincent stands at 11-12 overall on the season through 23 matches. The Dolphins will kickoff a busy week with a NECVA Metro showdown against New Paltz on Tuesday night. The match with the Hawks is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Hayes Gymnasium.
