afternoon, defeating Medgar Evers 3-0 and then falling to Villa Julie by a score of 3-0. Scores of the Medgar Evers match were 30-9, 30-23, 30-10 in favor of the Mount, while the scores of the Villa Julie contest were 20-30, 17-30, and 20-30 against the Dolphins. Freshman
David Guerrero (East Meadow, NY) led the Dolphins with 16 total kills over the two matches.
John Furka (Massapequa, NY) led the Dolphins with 10 kills against Medgar Evers and posted a hitting percentage of .750. Ryan Vogel (Holbrook, NY) and T.J. Pufahl (Bethpage, NY) each finished eight winners in the contest, while Guerreo pitched in with seven. Fitzroy Lawson (Kingston, Jamaica) also had a solid outing, as he posted five kills in the win to go along with two total blocks.
Mount Saint Vicnent's pair of setters also played a role in the victory, as Mike Quinn (Wantagh, NY) posted a match-high 26 assists. Quinn also finished with three service aces and six digs. Chris Dotoratos (Bronx, NY) recorded 16 assists in the win to go along with a match-high five service aces and four defensive digs.
Phil Anselmo (Bronx, NY) tied Quinn with a match-high six digs and Guerrero finished the match with five for the Dolphins.
For the match, the Dolphins posted 44 kills as a team and hit .367. The team combined for 16 service aces, a pair of total team blocks and 29 digs.
In the second match of the day, against Villa Julie, Guerrero led the team with nine winners. Vogel and Pufahl each had seven kills for the Mount and Lawson and Furka each finished the day with five. Guerrero also posted all three of the Dolphins' service aces in the match.
Dotoratos and Quinn again had solid outings, as the duo posted 18 and 13 assists respectively. The duo would also each record five digs for the Dolphins. Anselmo led the team in digs with nine and he also posted an assist.
Villa Julie was led by JR Jackson, who finished with 21 of the team's 45 total kills. John Hall recorded 36 assists in the match and David Lloyd had a team-high two service aces. Jackson also led the Mustangs in digs with seven.
Sunday's split moves Mount Saint Vincent to 8-14 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Tuesday, March 4 when they host Polytechnic. The match at Hayes Gymnasium is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
