Dolphins snap skid, top NJCU 3-2

losing streak with a 3-2 win over NJCU on Wednesday night. Scores of the match were 21-30, 30-28, 30-22, 27-30, and 15-13 in favor of the Dolphins. Senior Arnold Ross (Wilton, ME) led three Dolphins with double-digit kills, posting a match-high 21 winners.

In addition to his 21 kills, Ross posted 12 digs on the night. Junior T.J. Pufahl (Bethpage, NY) and freshman John Furka (Massapequa, NY) rounded out the trio in double-figures with 18 and 15 respectively. Furka continued his efficient play for the Mount on Wednesday, posting a hitting percentage of .364 after committing just three attack errors.

Phil Amselmo (Bronx, NY) led the Dolphins with 13 digs on the night and was followed by Ross and Pufahl who each recorded a dozen. Pufahl posted four of the team's seven service aces in the match and had a pair of block assists. Junior Fitzroy Lawson (Kingston, Jamaica) also had a strong effort for the Mount, as he finished with eight kills, two digs and three total blocks.

Mount Saint Vincent used a pair of setters in the contest and the two combined for 57 of the team's 60 assists. Rookie Mike Quinn (Wantagh, NY) led the team with 31 helpers, while junior Chris Dotoratos (Bronx, NY) chipped in 26 in the winning effort. Dotoratos also recorded a pair of service aces, eight digs and three total blocks. Quinn finished off the night with a service ace and six digs.

Overall as a team, Mount Saint Vincent finished with 63 kills and assisted on 60 of those. The team also had 55 defensive digs in the match and eight total team blocks.

The Gothic Knights had four players record double-digit kills on Wednesday, led by Chris Edra and Marley Pena-Guzman who each finished with 20. Justin Beaumont posted a match-high 64 assist for NJCU, while Kevin Rodgers and Felipe Siqueira each finished with 14 digs.

The win moves the Dolphins to 7-12 overall on the season. Mount Saint Vincent will return to action on Friday night when it takes on New Paltz in another NECVA Metro Division match. The road contest is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
