Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team was defeated on
Wednesday night at #3 Vassar by a score of 3-0. Scores of the match were 19-30, 28-30 and 22-30 in favor of the home standing Brewers. Sophomore
David Guerrero (East Meadow, N.Y.) finished with a match-high 13 kills, while senior
Chris Dotoratos (Bronx, N.Y.) led all players with 35 assists.
Guerrero finished the match with a .139 hitting percentage and also posted seven defensive digs and a pair of block assists. Justin Amaral (Warwick, R.I.) and T.J. Pufahl (Bethpage, N.Y.) each finished with seven winners, while John Furka (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Rob Hockenjos (West Hempstead, N.Y.) collected six kills each.
Hockenjos and Dotoratos led the way for the Dolphins in defensive digs with each posting nine in the match. Hockenjos tied Guerrero for the team lead with two total blocks.
Wednesday night was more than a NECVA Metro Divisional show down for two players on the court, as the Mount's Chris Bacchi (Hicksville, N.Y.) squared off against his brother Brian who plays for the Brewers. Brian finished the contest with four kills for Vassar, while Chris posted an assist and a pair of digs for the Mount.
Evan Fredericksen paced Vassar (9-3, 3-1 NECVA Metro) with 10 kills to go along with four digs and two service aces. John Kessenich, this past week's AVCA National Player of the Week, totaled nine winners and a team-high 19 assists to go along with seven digs. Scott Leserman posted a match-high 18 digs in the tilt with Steve Micucci posting four total blocks for the Brewers.
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 6-8 overall on the season and to 1-4 in NECVA Metro Division play. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Friday night when they travel to Purchase. The match with the Panthers is slated for 7:00 p.m.
