Men’s Volleyball swept by Gothic Knights on Senior Night

Dolphins play tremendous match but fall short; Butts: 14 kills, 8 solo blocks, Dotoratos: 38 assists

(Riverdale, NY) – In front of a raucous crowd that packed the Grace Athletics Center for the final home match of the 2006 season for the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team, the Mount did just about everything right for three games on Thursday night. Against NECVA Metro rival, NJCU, the Mount hit the ball cleanly, made picture-perfect passes, and played terrific defense. Ultimately, however, the tough Gothic Knight squad was too much for the Mount as the Dolphins were swept, 3-0, spoiling Senior Night for middle blocker Russell Butts (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach HS).

Butts did all he could to help rally the Mount as he finished with 14 kills, eight solo blocks, and five digs during an outstanding performance. He was one of two Dolphins who had double-digit kill totals as freshman T.J. Pufahl (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage HS) registered 10 kills to go with nine digs and four total blocks. Overall, Mount Saint Vincent hit a solid .235 and outblocked the Gothic Knights, 15.5-9.5. Ultimately, NJCU picked up the win because of a few errors in each game committed by Mount Saint Vincent, but otherwise, it was a statistical draw.

NJCU swept the match 25-30, 25-30, and 22-30.

Also having big matches for Mount Saint Vincent were sophomore Arnold Ross (Wilton, ME/Mount Blue HS), who registered a match-high 16 digs to go with his nine kills, and freshman Chris Dotoratos (Bronx, NY/Salesian) added a match-high 38 assists.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action for their 2006 season finale on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. when they travel to Bard College.
