match to open the season on Tuesday night with a 3-0 road win at Skyline rival NYU-POLY. The Dolphins were led by the duo of David Guerrero (East Meadow, N.Y.) and Rob Hockenjos (West Hempstead, N.Y.) who combined for 28 of the Dolphins' 36 kills.

 

Guerrero led the Mount Saint Vincent offensive charge for the second straight match with a 16 kill performance on Tuesday. He also chipped in with three service aces, eight digs and three total blocks. Over the first two matches of the season the junior outside hitter has amassed 33 kills and is averaging 5.5 kills per game.

 

Hockenjos also reached double figures in kills for the second time this season on Tuesday with 12 against the Blue Jays. He hit .333 in the match for the Dolphins and also contributed a pair of aces, five digs and three block assists.

 

Junior setter Michael Quinn (Wantagh, N.Y.) also had a solid night for the Dolphins, handing out 32 assists on the night to go along with five digs. Quinn has 67 helpers through the first two matches of the season and it averaging 11.17 assists per game for the Dolphins.

 

Overall in the match the Mount posted 36 kills to 20 for NYU-POLY and hit .202 as a team compared to just .041 for the Blue Jays. The Dolphins lifted 41 digs in the match and finished with eight total team blocks to four for home standing NYU-POLY.

 

The win pushes Mount Saint Vincent to a perfect 2-0 on the season and to 1-0 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will be on the road this weekend in Cincinnati, Ohio when they will take place in the Charlie Wrublewski Tournament hosted by the College of Mount Saint Joseph.
