impressive 3-0 win at Skyline Favorite Bard on Thursday night. The Mount took the match 30-26, 30-19 and 30-27. Sophomore
John Furka (Massapequa, N.Y.) had a strong match, leading the Dolphins with a season-high 11 kills.
Furka hit .417 in the match, committing just three attack errors in 17 total attempts. He also lifted seven defensive digs and registered four total blocks in the win. He was one of two Dolphins to post double-figures in kills on Thursday, as David Guerrero (East Meadow, N.Y.) finished the match with 10.
Matt Krauszer (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) continued his solid rookie campaign with eight winners for the Mount to go along with eight digs and four total blocks. Senior T.J. Pufahl (Bethpage, N.Y.) finished up with eight kills as well and also posted a pair of digs.
To go along with his 10 winners, Guerrero recorded the Mount's only service ace in the match and posted a team-high 13 digs. Justin Amaral (Warwick, R.I.) chipped in with seven digs to go along with a pair of kills.
Sophomore setter Michael Quinn (Wantagh, N.Y.) continued his strong early season play on Thursday with a 40 assist performance. He also contributed six digs and five total blocks.
As a team the Dolphins recorded 47 kills in the match and hit an impressive .324, committing just 14 errors in 102 swings. The Mount assisted on 43 of those kills and finished with nine total team blocks.
The victory is the Mount's second straight overall and moves it to 3-2 on the season and to 2-0 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Dolphins is a tri-match on Saturday at Stevenson (Md.). Mount Saint Vincent will take on King (Tenn.) at 9:00 a.m., then the host Mustangs at 11:00 a.m., before rounding out the day with a match-up with #12 Baruch at 1:00 p.m.
