The win gave Mount Saint Vincent a pair of victories in a stretch of three matches in three nights this week. On Tuesday the Dolphins were defeated in a spirited home match by New Paltz, but rebounded for 3-1 wins over Bard on Wednesday and Purchase this evening.
Amaral collected 10 kills in the match and added 12 defensive digs in the winning effort. He also contributed a service ace and a block assist for the Mount. Rob Hockenjos (West Hempstead, N.Y.) continued his consistent play with an 18 kill effort and also scored a double-double with 15 digs. Hockenjos also led the Dolphins with five service aces.
Senior T.J. Pufahl (Bethpage, N.Y.) finished the night with 13 winners, to go along with a pair of service aces and five digs. Chris Dotoratos (Bronx, N.Y.) and Mike Quinn (Wantagh, N.Y.) split the setting duties on Thursday, with Dotoratos handing out 18 helpers and Quinn finishing with 29 assists.
Overall in the contest, the Dolphins finished off 59 kills and assisted on 52 of those. The team also lifted 84 digs and posted 11 service aces.
The win moves Mount Saint Vincent back to the .500 mark on the season at 13-13 overall and improves its Skyline record to a perfect 8-0. The Dolphins will enter Sunday's Skyline Conference Championships as the top seed and will take on fourth-seeded Yeshiva at 11:00 a.m. The winner of that match will take on the winner of Purchase and Bard at 3:30 p.m. for the 2009 Skyline title. All matches will be played at Hayes Gymnasium on the campus of Mount Saint Vincent.
