Arnold Ross (Wilton, ME/Mount Blue HS) added a double-double of his own as the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team snapped a two-match losing streak with a 3-0 win over Medgar Evers on Monday night during a match played at Medgar Evers. With the win, the Mount improves to 7-11 and has matched their 2006 team win total with 11 matches to play this season.
After one of their most disappointing performances of the season during a 3-0 loss to Bard on Saturday, Mount Saint Vincent rebounded in style on Monday night with a 30-21, 30-20, 30-27 win as Williams and Ross sizzled for the Dolphins. Williams had 15 kills and a match-high 21 digs and hit an incredible .484, while Ross had 15 kills of his own and added 11 digs. Sophomore T.J. Pufahl (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage HS) and junior Nick Canzano (Farmington, NY/Victor HS) also broke the 10-dig mark as Pufahl had 16 digs, while Canzano registered 10.
Overall, Mount Saint Vincent hit .216 and registered 65 digs as the Dolphins used smart play and solid defense to overcome a major size disadvantage as Medgar Evers (4-7) outblocked the Mount, 13-8.
Mount Saint Vincent now hits a stretch of NECVA Metro matches that will determine their post-season fate as five of their next six matches will be against Division foes. The string begins on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. when Mount Saint Vincent hosts Polytechnic and Stevens for a tri-match.
