Softball Swept In Skyline Conference Doubleheader At Mount Saint Mary

Dolphins fall 6-5 in eight innings in game two

In addition to pitching both games on Saturday, Megan Gonzalez picked up a hit and an RBI in each contest for the Mount.
rival Mount Saint Mary on Saturday afternoon. The Dolphins fell by a score of 4-1 in the opener, before dropping a 6-5 heartbreaker in eight innings in game two. In addition to pitching 14.2 innings over two games, Megan Gonzalez (Fishers, IN) picked up a hit and an RBI in each contest.

The Dolphins were held to just four hits in game one, with Gonzalez, Lisa O'Shea (White Plains, NY), Nora Chivelly (Suffern, NY) and Jillian Troncoso (West Haverstraw, NY) recording the hits. O'Shea picked up the only extra base hit for the Mount with a double in the third inning. She would later be pushed home with the lone run of the game on a Gonzalez single.

Gonzalez worked the full 7.0 innings in game one and allowed four earned runs on 10 hits. She did not walk or strike out a batter in the contest. Her counterpart, Erin Dammermuth, picked up the win and fanned four in 7.0 innings.

In game two the Dolphins jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings. After Mount Saint Mary got on the board in the fourth and the Dolphins added a run in the sixth, the Blue Knights hung four runs on the board in the home half of the sixth to tie the game at five. After a scoreless seventh inning, Mount Saint Mary squeaked on the win with a run in the eighth on an RBI single from Christine DelPiano.

Karissa Koerner (Bay Shore, NY) recorded a double in the game for the Dolphins, as the Mount was held to just five hits in game two. Gonzalez and Sam Reynolds (Mamaroneck, NY) each finished game two with a hit and an RBI for the Mount.

Gonzalez worked the complete game, firing 7.2 innings and allowing six runs on 16 hits. She struck on one batter as she fell to 15-12 on the season.

The doubleheader loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 17-15 overall on the season and to 4-10 in the Skyline Conference. The Dolphins will close out the Skyline Conference schedule tomorrow with a home doubleheader against Old Westbury. The set is scheduled to start at Noon at Columbia University's Baker Field Complex.
