doubleheader with Purchase on Sunday afternoon. The Dolphins were defeated by a 4-2 score in the opener, before coming back for a 5-2 victory in the second game. Sophomore
Karissa Koerner (Bay Shore, NY) drove in a pair of runs in each game and hit a home run and a double in game two for the Mount.
In game one, the Dolphins were held scoreless until their final at-bat. With two outs and two runners on, Koerner drove a triple to the right center field gap to get the Mount on the board with two runs. Koerner would be stranded at third, however and two runs would be as close as the Mount would get as Purchase held on for the 4-2 win.
Koerner went 2-4 in the opener with the two RBI, while Dana McGuire (Setauket, NY) and Nora Chivelly (Suffern, NY) picked up the only two other hits for the Dolphins in the game. Chivelly and Lisa O'Shea (White Plains, NY) scored the Mount Saint Vincent runs.
Purchase starter Emily Stanley went 7.0 strong innings allowing just the two runs on four hits. She struck out five and walked five in the winning effort. Megan Gonzalez (Fishers, IN) took the loss for Mount Saint Vincent, as she allowed four runs on nine base hits in 7.0 innings. She also struck out five and walked just one.
In game two, the Dolphins used seven hits to reach their five runs. Koerner drove in two more for the Mount with a two-run home run in the third inning and also added a double in the fifth. She was 2-3 in the game and also scored a run.
Gonzalez picked up the win and improved to 15-10 on the season. She worked 7.0 innings and allowed just two earned runs on seven hits. She fanned three Purchase batters and again walked only one.
The split moves Mount Saint Vincent to 17-13 overall on the season and to 4-8 in the Skyline Conference. The Dolphins will be back in action again on April 26 on the road at Mount Saint Mary. First pitch with the Blue Knights is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
