College of Mount Saint Vincent Softball team rebounded to earn a split in game two with a 9-1 victory. Sophomore
Katie Shea (Flushing, N.Y.) paced the Dolphins in game two, hurling a three hitter and allowing just one run from the circle.
In game one the Dolphins jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but would manage just three more runs the entire contest. Purchase knotted the game at 3-3 in the second inning and then scored 10 of its 13 runs in its final four at bats. The Dolphins would pound out 11 hits in the game, but left 13 runners on base.
Purchase finished the game with 17 base hits with Olivia Hintz leading the way by going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI. Karina Diaz finished with three hits and four RBI for the Panthers as all nine starters in the lineup scored a run.
Victoria Baldini (Yonkers, N.Y.) finished with three safeties for the Dolphins and Nora Chivelly (Suffern, N.Y.) scored two of the Mount's six runs. Megan Gonzalez (Fishers, Ind.) took the loss after allowing seven earned runs in 7.0 innings of work. She struck out four Panthers in the outing.
In game two the Dolphins again jumped out to a 3-0 lead after their first at bat. Karissa Koerner (Bay Shore, N.Y.) ripped a run scoring double in the frame and Gonzalez closed out the scoring in the frame with a two run single.
The three run first would be more then enough for Shea who breezed through the 5.0 inning mercy rule contest. She allowed one run in game two after a Jennie Angelone triple and Jillian Lucas sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. She fanned three and did not walk a batter.
Lisa O'Shea (White Plains, N.Y.) had a big game for the Dolphins, going a perfect 4-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored and two RBI. Baldini closed out a big day with two more runs scored in game two as the Mount won its first league game since a game one win over Old Westbury on March 27.
The split on Sunday moves Mount Saint Vincent to 5-15 overall on the season and to 2-6 in Skyline Conference play. After a day off on Monday the Dolphins will return to action at home against St. Elizabeth. First pitch for the non-conference twinbill is set for 3:30 p.m.
