YONKERS, NY – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Softball team swept a Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference Softball set from Sarah Lawrence on Friday by scores of 8-0 and 11-6. Sophomore
Karissa Koerner (Bay Shore, NY) led the Mount attack with five RBI over the two games.
Koerner went 3-4 with three doubles and five RBI in the opener of Friday. Koerner and Nora Chivelly (Suffern, NY) were the only Dolphins with more then one base hit in the game, as Chivelly went 2-3 with three runs scored. Dana McGuire (Setauket, NY) scored three runs in the game, while Megan Gonzalez (Fishers, IN) picked up two runs batted in for the Mount.
In game two, the Dolphins recorded 11 hits in the win, including three more from Chivelly. The rookie second baseman finished the second game 3-3 with a pair of runs scored and one driven in. Koerner drove in two more runs to give her seven on the afternoon and senior Meghan Flaherty (Yonkers, NY) went 2-4 with a triple, a run scored and an RBI. McGuire finished the second contest 1-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Gonzalez picked up the win in both games and moved her record to 14-9 on the season. In game one she earned the shutout after allowing just two base hits and striking out 11. In game two, she came on in relief and worked 3.1 innings, allowing just one earned run on three hits. She struck out eight more batters to give her 19 on the afternoon.
The sweep pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 16-12 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Sunday when they host Purchase. First pitch at Fay Field in Yonkers is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
