Skyline Conference twinbill on Saturday afternoon at Mount Saint Mary. The Dolphins were shutout in game one 3-0 and then fell short in the backend of the set 7-3. Senior outfielder
Lisa O'Shea (White Plains, N.Y.) drove in a pair of runs for the Mount in game two.
The Blue Knights scored the only three runs of the game in the opener in the home half of the third inning. Mount Saint Mary took advantage of a pair of Dolphin errors in the inning to plate three unearned runs.
Megan Gonzalez (Fishers, Ind.) took the hard luck loss in game one after allowing only two hits. She did not allow an earned run in the outing and struck out one. Katherine Postel (Queens, N.Y.) and Victoria Baldini (Yonkers, N.Y.) picked up the only hits for the Dolphins in the game.
Caitlin Maynes stifled the Dolphins in the opener working the complete game shutout. She too allowed only two hits, but fanned eight and did not allow a run. She was supported by Destiny Scott and Danielle Orender who each drove in runs.
In game two the Dolphins used a three run third inning to move in front by a run in the middle innings. Lisa O'Shea singled in two runs in the frame and had the only Mount Saint Vincent hit in the stanza, as it was the Dolphins turn to take advantage of two Mount Saint Mary miscues.
The lead would be short lived however, as the Blue Knights plated four runs in the fourth and then an insurance run in the fifth to secure the sweep and to stay unbeaten in league play. The big blow in the fourth inning was a two run triple from Liz Carlson.
For the Mount in game two Lisa O'Shea finished 1-for-3 with a run scored and her team leading 14th and 15th RBI. The Dolphins were again held to just two base hits in the game with Baldini picking up the other safety. Marni O'Shea (White Plains, N.Y.) and Deanna Rivera (Pelham, N.Y.) added runs scored for the Dolphins.
Mount Saint Mary pounded out 12 hits in game two and had five players with two hits. Maynes supported her own cause with two runs scored. She earned her second win of the day allowing three unearned runs and fanning two.
Gonzalez took the loss in game two but worked her second outing of the day. She went 6.0 innings and allowed just four earned runs.
The two losses on Saturday drop Mount Saint Vincent to 4-14 overall on the season and to 1-5 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will play another league set on Sunday afternoon when they take on Purchase. First pitch for the twinbill to be played at Purchase is set for 12:00 p.m.
