Dolphins Score Doubleheader Win Over Sarah Lawrence

Vincent softball squad to a doubleheader win against Sarah Lawrence on Thursday after going a combined 4-for-5 over the two games with five runs scored and five RBI. The Dolphins powered their way to the sweep by winning game one 14-3 and then the nightcap 18-10.

 

After falling behind 3-0 before their first at bat in game one, the Dolphins quickly tied the score in the home half of the inning with three runs of their own. The Mount went out to bust the game open with nine tallies in the second inning. Marni O'Shea picked up a run producing single in the frame, while Lisa O'Shea (White Plains, N.Y.) drove in a pair.

 

Mount Saint Vincent recorded only six hits in the game, but took advantage of four Sarah Lawrence errors to secure the win. Six different players record a hit in the contest, with Marni and Lisa O'Shea combining for five of the Mount's 10 RBI. Deana Rivera (Pelham, N.Y.) led four Dolphins with at least two runs scored with three.

 

Megan Gonzalez (Fishers, Ind.) picked up her third win of the season in the opener after working 5.0 effective innings for the Dolphins. After allowing three runs and four hits in the first inning, she settled in to allow just two more hits the rest of the game. She fanned five Gryphons in the win.

 

In the game two slugfest the Dolphins would never trail but allowed the Gryphons to close to within 12-10 after opening a nine run advantage after the fourth inning. Sarah Lawrence responded with seven tallies in the top of the fifth inning, keyed by a two run home run from Sarah DeSocio. Sarah Lawrence's clean up hitter connected on three round trippers on the day and finished the set with three runs scored and seven RBI.

 

In the bottom half of the inning, Mount Saint Vincent stormed back with six runs to close out the mercy rule shortened game. Roseanna Pulice (Yonkers, N.Y.) picked up a two run single in the frame, before Lisa O'Shea connected on a grand slam as a pinch hitter to close out the scoring. Each of the O'Shea's ripped a home run in the game, with Marni connecting on her first of the season and Lisa on her team leading third.

 

Marni O'Shea finished the game a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI out of the leadoff spot. Nora Chivelly (Suffern, N.Y.) also had a strong day out of the two hole in the lineup, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. Six Dolphins scored at least two runs in the game two win with Victoria Cardillo (Boston, Mass.) joining Marni O'Shea with three runs scored.

 

Katie Shea (Flushing, N.Y.) picked up the win in the circle for the Dolphins in her first appearance of the season. She worked 5.0 innings, allowing nine hits and only four earned runs. She also went 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and a pair of RBI.

 

The sweep on Thursday gives Mount Saint Vincent three wins in its last five games and moves it to 4-12 overall on the season. The Dolphins will step back into Skyline Conference action on Saturday when they travel to Mount Saint Mary. First pitch for the doubleheader in Newburgh is set for 12:00 p.m.
