another brilliant day, pitching consecutive complete games while allowing only six earned runs over two games, and the Dolphin defense played splended softball over two games, but the Mount Saint Vincent Softball team lost a doubleheader to Mount Saint Mary, 4-3 in eight innings and 3-1 on Tuesday during games played at Mount Saint Mary. With the losses, the Mount is now 5-6 overall and 1-5 in Skyline Conference play.
A day after one of the finest offensive outings in recent memory during a twinbill sweep of Saint Elizabeth, Mount Saint Vincent's bats were silenced on Tuesday as the Dolphins comined for four runs and seven hits during the two games. The opener saw Mount Saint Mary (7-9, 4-2 Skyline Conference) jump out to a 3-0 lead after three innings, but the Mount rallied with two runs in the fourth inning thanks to a Mount Saint Mary error that allowed two unearned runs to score. In the top of the sixth inning, a Karissa Koerner (Bay Shore, NY/Brentwood HS) single scored Lisa O'Shea (White Plains, NY/Our Lady of Victory) to tie the score, and teams headed to extra innings.
Mount Saint Mary won the game in the bottom of the eighth inning after a walk, a single, and a hit by pitch gave the Blue Knights a bases loaded situation with nobody out. A Blue Knight single ended the game and gave the Mount their fourth straight Skyline Conference loss.
Gonzalez allowed three earned runs on nine hits and struck out four while walking four as well.
The nightcap saw Mount Saint Mary score all three of their runs and register four of their eight hits to spoil an otherwise dominant performance by Gonzalez. The Mount's lone run was scored when O'Shea doubled home Dana McGuire (E. Setauket, NY/Ward Melville HS), but the Mount could not make the game any closer as the Dolphins combined for only three hits. Gonzalez struck out two and walked three during another terrific outing.
Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Wednesday, April 11 when they travel to Manhattanville College for a Skyline Conference doubleheader beginning at 4:00 p.m.
