Wednesday evening with a heartbreaking 2-1 loss at Baruch in the first round of the ECAC Division III Metro Tournament. Sophomore
Megan Gonzalez (Fishers, IN) pitched six strong innings for the Mount, but the Dolphins were held to just three hits in the contest.
Mount Saint Vincent held its only lead of the game in the top of the second when it pushed across its lone run. Karissa Koerner (Bay Shore, NY) led off the frame with a double and was quickly moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from Jillian Troncoso (West Haverstraw, NY). After Gonzalez reached on a free pass, Koerner scored on an error on a double steal to give the Dolphins the lead at 1-0.
Barcuch answered in the bottom of the second with a run on a pair of hits. The Bearcats took advantage of three Mount Saint Vincent errors in the inning to tie the score. Baruch would score the eventual game winner in the fifth after a double from Ashley Brandow with two outs in the inning. She would be driven home by Idelissa Lluveres' single to right to close out the scoring and send the Bearcats to their first ever post-season victory.
The Dolphins managed just three hits off of Baruch starter Andrea Tepfer. Nora Chivelly (Suffern, NY) and Koerner each collected doubles and Nina Pagani (Yonkers, NY) picked up a pinch hit single in the seventh. Tepfer struck out nine and did not allow an earned run in 7.0 innings of work.
Gonzalez worked 6.0 innings in the tough luck loss for the Mount and fell to 17-15 on the season. She allowed six hits in the contest and only one of the two runs she surrendered was earned. She fanned a pair and did not walk a batter in the loss.
With the loss, the Dolphins close out the season with an overall record of 19-19.
