Mount Saint Vincent Splits With Old Westbury

doubleheader with Old Westbury on Sunday afternoon, dropping game one 3-2 before coming back for a 7-4 victory in game two. Karissa Koerner (Bay Shore, NY) connected on a two-run home run in game one and drove in three runs in the game two win.

Old Westbury jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top half of the second inning. The Panthers would jump out to a three run lead in the top of the sixth inning when Angela Adamkiewicz connected on a solo home run. Koerner got the Mount on the board in the home half of the sixth with her two run blast, but the Mount would not be able to get the tying run across.

Mount Saint Vincent recorded six hits in the game, with Dana McGuire (Setauket, NY), Lisa O'Shea (White Plains, NY), Koerner, Jillian Troncoso (West Haverstraw, NY), Ariella Tirado (Newburgh, NY) and Sam Reynolds (Mamaroneck, NY) all reaching safely. O'Shea and Koerner scored the Mount runs in game one.

Megan Gonzalez (Fishers, IN) took the loss in game one. She went 7.0 innings and allowed three runs, only one earned, on nine base hits. She struck out three and walked just one batter. Her counterpart Deborah Ciccarelli also went 7.0 innings and allowed just the two runs on six hits. She also struck out three in the winning effort.

In game two, Mount Saint Vincent used a six run second inning to secure the win. The inning was keyed by a two run single by Reynolds and a three run base hit by Koerner. In all the Dolphins would score six times on four hits in the frame. The Mount would add an insurance run in the third on a Mary Kate Walker (Warwick, NY) single to earn the win.

Koerner went 2-4 with three RBI in the win, while Reynolds went 1-2 with a run scored and a pair of RBI. Only two Dolphins starters did not score a run in the victory, as seven different player crossed home.

Gonzalez earned the game two win on Sunday with her second complete game of the day. In 7.0 innings she surrendered four runs on 11 hits. She walked just two and struck out six for the Dolphins. After going 1-1 on Sunday, Gonzalez's record stands at 16-13 on the year.

Sunday's doubleheader marks the final regular season competition in 2008 for the Mount. The Dolphins are tied with Old Westbury for the final Skyline Conference Tournament seed and await news of tie breaker procedures to see if they will qualify.

The Dolphins wrapped up the 2008 regular season with an 18-16 overall record and a 5-11 mark in the Skyline Conference.
