Softball drops two nail-biters to Cyclones during Skyline Conference twin-bill

Dolphins pitchers in top form despite 3-1 and 2-0 defeats

(Riverdale, NY) – Pitchers Jessica Riddle (Billerica, MA/Billerica HS) and Krista Roberts (Wilmington, MA/Wilmington HS) were simply incredible on the mound and the Dolphin defense committed only three errors during two games, but the Mount Saint Vincent Softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader, 3-1 and 2-0 to Centenary during games played at Mount Saint Vincent. With the losses, the Mount's five-game winning streak was broken, and Mount Saint Vincent is now 7-20 overall and 2-10 in Skyline Conference play.

Centenary opened the scoring during the second inning of the first game on an unearned run, but the Mount tied the game at the bottom of the inning when catcher Nabela Tahir (Flushing, NY/Cardozo HS) singled home an unearned run. The Cyclones (9-10, 5-1 Skyline Conference) won the game with runs during the fifth and seventh innings. Riddle was fantastic once again, allowing only one earned run over seven innings while striking out five and walking only one. The freshman has now allowed only two earned runs during her last 20 innings of work.

The second game was a pitcher's duel as Roberts went pitch-for-pitch with one of the top starting pitchers in the Skyline Conference, however the duel was won by the Cyclones with runs in the first and fifth innings. Dolphin freshman Jillian Troncoso (West Haverstraw, NY/West Haverstraw HS) was the lone bright spot for the Mount at the plate as she went 3 for 3. But, the Dolphins managed only five hits during the game. Roberts finished the game allowing only four hits and struck out five Cyclone batters while walking only one.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Monday, April 17 when they host HVWAC rival St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) for a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader.
