Roberts fires one-hitter as Softball advances to HVWAC Semifinals, 9-0 over Sarah Lawrence

Dolphins pound out 17 hits to win for 13th time in last 18 games, will face St. Elizabeth on Saturday

(Riverdale, NY) – A little less than two weeks after the Mount Saint Vincent Softball team celebrated Senior Day 2006, the Mount Saint Vincent senior class came back one more time to celebrate a job well done during the last four years, and as a result the Mount is very much in the hunt for the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Championship. Pitcher Krista Roberts (Wilmington, MA/Wilmington HS) tossed a complete-game one-hitter, striking out six, and fellow senior Jacqui Dauphinais (S. Yarmouth, MA/Dennis-Yarmouth Regional HS) drove in two runs with a fifth inning double as Mount Saint Vincent downed Sarah Lawrence College, 9-0 in the HVWAC Quarterfinals at Mount Saint Vincent on Thursday.

Mount Saint Vincent scored twice in the bottom of the first inning as a Jessica Piccoli (Yonkers, NY/Saunders HS) double drove in two runs. Gina Angolillo (W. Harrison, NY/Harrison HS) made it 3-0 an inning later with an RBI single, and the Dolphins cruised from there behind the strong left arm of Roberts, who is now 6-3 with a 2.67 ERA during her last nine starts.

The Mount made it 7-0 with a four-run bottom of the fourth inning, and Dauphinais's two-RBI double in the bottom of the fifth inning invoked the mercy rule and the game was over. Angolillo and Piccoli had three hits apiece, while four different Dolphins registered two hits each. Nine different Dolphins had hits on Thursday.

With the win, the Mount improves to 15-23 – including 13 wins during their last 18 games – and will face the College of Saint Elizabeth on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the HVWAC Semifinals. The game will be played at St. Joseph's College in Brooklyn, NY.
