YONKERS, NY – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer team fell to Skyline Conference rival Old Westbury 5-2 at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers Wednesday afternoon.
Zack Coppola (Staten Island, NY) and
Fitzroy Lawson (Yonkers, NY) were the goal scorers for the Dolphins, who fell to 3-8-1 overall and 1-3 in Skyline play.
Old Westbury jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the half on a pair of goals from Justin Leaky. He scored eight minutes in on a partial breakaway and then tallied for the second time on a run down the left side. Leaky capped off an impressive day with an assist later in the game.
John Senatore also had a strong game for the Panthers, as he also posted a pair of goals and an assist in the contest. Orlando McFarlane scored the eventual game winner for Old Westbury just two minutes into the second half, as the Panthers used just three goal scores to reach five goals.
Coppola broke up the shutout bid for the Panthers late in the game with a blast from 20 yards out. He picked up a free ball and drove it home to get the Dolphins on the board. Lawson connected on the second goal just over a minute later when he headed home a crossing pass from Coppola.
James Green (Waldwick, NJ) got the nod in goal for the Mount and made eight saves in the game. Brian Hicks picked up the win for Old Westbury, making a single save for the Panthers.
For the game, Old Westbury held the advantage in shots at 25-7 and in corner kicks at 10-5. Fouls in the contest were called 12-9 against Mount Saint Vincent.
The Dolphins will be back in action on Monday night when they take on conference rival Yeshiva. Kick-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers. This will be a road contest for Mount Saint Vincent.
