Nick Triolo (Homer, N.Y.) had a strong day for the Dolphins, combining to go 5-7 with five runs scored and nine RBI over the two games.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning of game one the Dolphins responded by outscoring the Privateers 11-3 over the final eight frames. Triolo and James Labartino (Holbrook, N.Y.) led the charge and combined for eight of the Dolphins' 15 hits in the contest. Each player went 4-5 in the game with Labartino scoring four times for the Dolphins.
Three of Triolo's four hits in the game went for extra bases, as he ripped a double and a pair of home runs in the win. Classmate Josh Cuozzo (Westbury, N.Y.) also had a strong game at the plate, finishing 3-5. Freshman catcher Michael Lucre (Queens, N.Y.) ripped his first career home run in the game as the Dolphins finished with six extra base hits in the game.
John Olsen (Seaford, N.Y.) picked up the win in relief for the Dolphins in game one after relieving starter Corey Kirsh (East Meadow, N.Y.) who worked 4.1 innings. Olsen threw 3.1 innings out of the pen and allowed just one run on a pair of hits. He fanned three and walked three as he moved to 4-0 on the season.
In game two, Mount Saint Vincent broke the game open early with eight runs in its first three at-bats. The Dolphins scored at least one run in six of the seven innings and scored at least a pair of runs in five of their seven at-bats.
Triolo ripped his third home run of the afternoon in game two and finished with another run scored and four more RBI. Joe Blackford (Stewartsville, N.J.) went 3-5 in the contest with two runs scored and Mike Ruckdaschel (East Meadow, N.Y.), Cuozzo and Anthony Masullo (Howard Beach, N.Y.) each finished with a pair of safeties. Ruckdaschel also scored three times and drove three runs in and Cuozzo finished with four RBI.
Freshman Anthony Mongelli (Flushing, N.Y.) earned the win for the Dolphins and moved to 4-3 on the season after firing 6.0 effective innings. He allowed four runs on four hits in the outing and fanned seven against just three walks. Blackford came out and worked a scoreless seventh inning for the Dolphins to lower his ERA to 1.46 on the season.
The sweep pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 18-12 overall on the season and to 11-5 in the Skyline Conference. The Dolphins will close out the regular season on Sunday when they host Cortland in a non-league doubleheader.
