James Labartino (Holbrook, N.Y.) collected six hits over the two games, including four in game one.
Trailing 8-6 late in game one the Dolphins plated four runs in the eighth and a single tally in the ninth to come-from-behind in game one. After scoring one run in the top of the first the Mount surrendered two runs in the home half of the inning to fall behind 2-1 early in the contest. The Dolphins scored four in the second to retake the lead, but were outscored 6-1 until the eighth inning.
In the deciding frame Mount Saint Vincent scored its four runs with the benefit of just one hit. Joe Blackford (Stewartsville, N.J.) and John McManus (Bayside, N.Y.) drove home runs with walks and Nick Triolo (Homer, N.Y.) brought home a run on a fielder's choice. Blackford closed out the scoring in the inning when he scored on a passed ball with two outs. The insurance run in the ninth was brought home on a Mike Pope (Massapequa, N.Y.) double with two away.
Overall in the game Mount Saint Vincent outhit the Blue Knights 15-14, with Labartino leading all players with four hits. He went 4-6 with a double and a triple and also scored four times. Pope and Mike Ruckdasachel (East Meadow, N.Y.) each had three hits with Pope driving in two runs and Ruckdaschel ripping a pair of doubles and picking up three RBI.
John Olsen (Seaford, N.Y.) came on to pick up the win in relief of Mike Trainor (Patterson, N.Y.). Trainor worked the first 6.0 innings, before Olsen came on to work a scoreless seventh inning. Blackford registered the safe after working the final 2.0 innings and allowing just three hits.
Game two went back and forth with the Dolphins jumping out to a 5-1 lead before the Blue Knight tied the score with four runs in the bottom of the third. The Dolphins retook the lead with three runs in the fourth, but Mount Saint Mary scored four runs in its next three at-bats to take a 9-8 into the seventh inning.
The Dolphins responded with two runs when Vinny Todino (Eastchester, N.Y.) drove home a run with a triple and later scored on a Labartino single. The Blue Knights would force extra frames in the bottom of the inning when Louis Peisel singled home a run off of Blackford to tie the score at 10-10.
After a scoreless eighth inning, Mount Saint Vincent scratched out a run when Labartino reached on a one-out single and then stole second. Ruckdaschel gave the Mount the lead for good when he singled in the run for the final 11-10 decision. Blackford allowed a hit in the ninth but stranded the runner to earn the win.
Triolo paced the Mount with a 3-5 performance in game two to go along with two runs scored. Labartino, Ruckdaschel, McManus and Gerald Amerosi (Staten Island, N.Y.) each recorded two hits for the Mount and Pope scored two more runs for the Dolphins.
The sweep pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 16-12 overall on the season and to 9-5 in the Skyline Conference. The Dolphins will be back on the field Tuesday afternoon when they host Centenary in a non-conference contest. First pitch at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank, N.Y. is set for 3:30 p.m.
