Baseball Splits With Skyline Preseason Favorite Farmingdale St.

the opener 5-1 by the Rams but rebounded for an 8-6 triumph in game two. Junior Joe Blackford (Stewartsville, N.J.) knocked in three runs for the Mount in the win and Josh Cuozzo (Westbury, N.Y.) collected a pair of hits.

The Dolphins were held to just four hits in the opener by a trio of Farmingdale St. pitchers. The Mount was held without a hit until Blackford doubled to lead off the top of the fourth inning and only had multiple runners on base in two frames, the seventh and the ninth.

Mount Saint Vincent picked up its lone run in the in the top half of the seventh when sophomore John McManus (Bayside, N.Y.) knocked in Mike Ruckdaschel (East Meadow, N.Y.) with a two out single. The Dolphins would load the bases in their final at-bat but strand all three men in the frame.

Ruckdaschel picked up two of the Mount's four hits in the opener, going 2-4 with a run scored. Blackford and McManus collected the other two safeties for the Dolphins.

Corey Kirsh (East Meadow, N.Y.) took the loss for the Mount after working 8.0 innings for his third straight complete game effort. Only two of the five runs he surrendered were earned in the game and he allowed 10 hits and fanned one.

The Dolphins were outhit again in game two and for the 12th time this season, but used a seven run second inning to get away with a split with the Rams. The Dolphins took advantage of two errors by the Rams to plate seven unearned runs in the frame. The big blow in the inning was a bases clearing three-run double from Blackford.

Mount Saint Vincent would keep a comfortable lead until the Rams responded with five runs in the home half of the sixth inning on six of their 14 hits. Mike Labrozzi doubled in a run for Farmingdale St. in the inning and Frank Ennis delivered a two-run single to pull the Rams to within a pair of runs at 8-6 with one at-bat remaining.

Farmingdale St. moved the tying run into scoring position in the seventh, but Blackford got a groundout to end the threat and secure the win. He saved the game for rookie Anthony Mongelli (Flushing, N.Y.) who moved to 3-2 on the season. He worked 5.0 innings and allowed four runs on five hits. He struck out three Rams and walked just one. Blackford picked up his fourth save in the contest, after working 1.1 scoreless innings.

Cuozzo went 2-3 with a pair of doubles in the win. He also scored a run and drove in a pair for the Dolphins. James Labartino (Holbrook, N.Y.) also picked up a pair of RBI in the win and eight different players scored a run.

The split on Sunday moves Mount Saint Vincent to 13-9 overall on the season and to 7-3 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins return to action again on Tuesday afternoon at John Jay. First pitch at Legion Field in Brooklyn is set for 3:30 p.m.
