The Dolphins would manage just a single run on six hits in the opener on Saturday. Five different Mount Saint Vincent players recorded a hit in the game, with Coogan going 2-for-4 with the only run scored. He was driven in by Gerald Amerosi (Staten Island, N.Y.) in the top of the ninth inning.

Old Westbury would get all they needed in the home half of the second inning when it pushed across three runs. Ronald Petito delivered two of the runs with a single in the frame. The Panthers plated the three runs on three hits and two walks.

The Panthers would open the game up with three more runs in the fifth and added an insurance run in the sixth to push its lead to 7-0. Euris Turbi had the big blow in the fifth inning with a three run home run with two outs.

Seven runs would be more then enough for Old Westbury starter Dan Fordyce. He worked the complete game and allowed just the one run on six base hits. He fanned 10 Dolphins on his way to the first win of the season. Anthony Mongelli (Flushing, N.Y.) took the loss for the Mount after allowing seven runs in 5.2 innings. He whiffed five Panthers.

The Dolphins would again have to battle from behind in game two after Old Westbury jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings. The Panthers plated four runs in the first inning off of the Mount's Matt Calandrillo (Cold Spring, N.Y.) and added two more in the second. The Panthers benefitted from two Mount Saint Vincent errors in the first inning.

After the second, Mount Saint Vincent would cut into the deficit with a run in the third and two each in the fourth and fifth. Labartino drove in two runs in the fourth with a triple and Amerosi picked up an RBI in the fifth with an infield single.

The bats from Old Westbury would prove to be two much in the end as the Panthers would score in every at bat but two. After the Dolphins cut the lead to 6-3 the Panthers added insurance runs in the fourth and fifth to secure the sweep.

Coogan was again 2-for-4 with a double for the Mount and added a run scored and an RBI in game two. He ran his hitting streak to nine games. He was the only Mount Saint Vincent player with multiple hits on the day.

Melvin Simmons and Albert Bevacqua each collected three hits for the Panthers, with Bevacqua driving in a pair. Josef Schaetzle also drove in a pair of runs for Old Westbury after going 2-for-4 in game two.

Calandrillo took the loss in game two after working 4.2 innings. He allowed eight runs in the outing but only four of those were earned. Phil Mangerino (Mahopac, N.Y.) came on to work a scoreless 1.1 innings, allowing just one hit.

The losses on Saturday drop Mount Saint Vincent to 8-11 overall on the season and to 2-2 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will take to the diamond again on Sunday afternoon when they host Mount Saint Mary. First pitch for the doubleheader at Narrows Field in Brooklyn, N.Y.) is slated for 12:00 p.m.
