Conference doubleheader against Farmingdale State on Sunday by scores of 6-3 and 9-2.
Joe Blackford (Stewartsville, NJ) and
Nick Triolo (Homer, NY) each went 2-4 in game one, while
James Labartino (Holbrook, NY) knocked in a run for the Dolphins in game two.
Mount Saint Vincent jumped on top of the Rams by a score of 3-0 in game one on single runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings. The Dolphins opened the scoring in the first after Logan Mauzy (Homer, NY) and Labartino executed a double steal to take the early lead.
Jon O'Leary (Bohemia, NY) was able to keep the Rams off the board until the sixth inning, when Farmingdale's Frank Ennis led off the frame with a double and was later pushed across on a sacrifice fly.
The Rams would go on to score two runs in the seventh and three in the eighth to earn to come from behind win in the Dolphins' first home game of the season.
O'Leary fired 6.0 strong innings, allowing just two earned runs on seven hits. He struck out three and walked a pair in the no decision. Scott Taylor (Jersey City, NJ) took the loss in relief as he worked 1.2 innings and allowed three runs, only one earned, on three hits.
Blackford went 2-4 with an RBI in the opener, while Labartino and Zach Munroe (Milford, CT) each recorded doubles. Labartino scored a pair of runs, while Munroe crossed home once.
Tom Heeman earned the win as he spun 7.1 innings and allowed just two earned runs. He allowed seven hits and struck out 12. Billy Garofalo picked up the save after allowing one hit in 1.0 inning of work.
In game two, the Dolphins struggled to solve Farmingdale starter Jesse Scott. Mount Saint Vincent did not record its first hit, a Labartino single, until the third inning and could only scratch out three knocks in the contest overall.
Triolo and Vito Cataldo (Wantagh, NY) picked up the other two hits, while Labartino had the only RBI. Blackford and Triolo scored the only two runs of the contest for the Dolphins.
Anthony Palandro (Westbury, NY) took the loss for the Mount, as he worked 3.1 innings and allowed eight runs, only two of which were earned. He struck out two and walked two. Munroe pitched effectively in relief, as he allowed just one run on three hits in 3.2 innings of work.
Scott went 4.1 in picking up the win, surrendering two runs on just one hit. He walked two and struck out five in the winning effort.
The sweep drops the Mount to 5-10 overall and to 1-3 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will be back in action in a non-conference match-up with Manhattanville on Tuesday, April 1. First pitch for the road game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in Purchase, NY.
