Christopher Batista (Bronx, N.Y.) fired six shutout innings in game one, while
Matt Calandrillo (Cold Spring, N.Y.) worked 7.0 innings in game two.
Mount Saint Vincent was outhit in game one 4-2 by the Maccabees. The big hit in the game for the Dolphins was a two run triple from Joe Blackford (Stewartsville, N.J.) in the first inning. John McManus (Bayside, N.Y.) drove in the third run of the inning with a groundout.
Blackford and Giuseppe Adranga (Bronx, N.Y.) picked up the only hits for the Dolphins as the Mount scored in only two frames. Batista made it hold up by allowing just three base hits over his outing. He fanned seven Yeshiva batters against just two walks. Blackford worked a scoreless seventh inning picking up a strikeout.
Yeshiva jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the third inning in the backend of the doubleheader. The Dolphins would respond with a three spot in the bottom half of the inning when Mike Pope (Massapequa, N.Y.) drove in a run with a single to cut the deficit in half. Blackford got the Mount even with a run scoring groundout to second base before Mount Saint Vincent would take the lead for good when Josh Cuozzo (Westbury, N.Y.) brought home Mike Ruckdaschel (East Meadow, N.Y.) on a squeeze play.
The Dolphins would tack on two runs in the fourth inning on a James Labartino (Holbrook, N.Y.) RBI single and a RBI groundout from Pope. Both Pope and Labartino finished the game with a pair of runs batted in. Mount Saint Vincent closed out the scoring in the home half of the sixth inning when Labartino drove home Dan Watson (Queens, N.Y.) on a sacrifice fly to centerfield.
Calandrillo improved his record to 2-1 on the season and lowered his earned run average to 2.50 following his start on Wednesday. He allowed two runs on five hits over his 7.0 innings of work. He struck out six Maccabees and did not walk a batter. John Olsen (Seaford, N.Y.) worked the final two frames allowing just three hits.
Ruckdaschel went 3-4 with a run scored in game two, while Watson went 2-4 and scored a pair of runs. Brendan Russo (Westbury, N.Y.) also finished with a pair of hits for Mount Saint Vincent.
The sweep of Yeshiva improves Mount Saint Vincent's overall record to 11-7 on the season and its Skyline mark to 6-2. The Dolphins will be back on the field on Saturday when they travel to the College of Staten Island. The twinbill is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m.
