game one 8-3 before clipping the Panthers 3-2 in the back end of the set to complete the sweep.
John McManus (Queens, N.Y.) went 3-for-4 in the opener and drove in a pair of runs.
The first game went back and forth over the first four innings with the two teams trading runs in the first inning. Mike Ruckdaschel (East Meadow, N.Y.) drove in the Mount's run with a single before the Panthers evened the score after and RBI groundout.
With the score tied 2-2 going into the sixth inning, the Dolphins exploded for six runs in the top half of the frame on the strength of three runs and three Purchase errors. The big blow in the inning was a two run double from McManus. Kevin Coogan (Bronx, N.Y.) drove in the third run of the inning with a run scoring single.
Eight runs would be more then enough cushion for Mount Saint Vincent starter Anthony Mongelli (Flushing, N.Y.). The sophomore right hander worked 7.0 innings in game one and allowed just three hits and three earned runs. He was hurt by nine walks in the outing, but also fanned four.
McManus was the only Dolphin to record more then one hit in the game with his three. James Labartino (Holbrook, N.Y.) scored twice for the Mount in the win.
Game two turned out to be a pitchers duel with the Mount hanging on for the one run victory. Coogan continued his strong rookie campaign by driving in Mike Pope (Massapequa, N.Y.) who had doubled for the first run of the game in the second inning.
The Dolphins opened a 3-0 lead in sixth inning when McManus drilled a two-run home run with no one out in the frame. Mount Saint Vincent would need both of those insurance runs, as Purchase rallied for two runs in the bottom half of the inning off of Mount Saint Vincent starter Matt Calandrillo (Haldane, N.Y.).
Joe Blackford (Stewartsville, N.J.) came on and got the final two outs of the inning with the tying run on second to save the win for Calandrillo. The sophomore left handed starter worked 5.1 innings and allowed the two earned runs on five base hits. He fanned five for the Dolphins. Blackford worked the final 1.2 innings to earn the save and preserve the sweep.
Pope finished game two 2-for-3 with a run as seven different players combined for eight hits in the game. McManus drove in two more runs for the Dolphins who have now won four of their last five contests.
The pair of wins moves Mount Saint Vincent to 7-9 overall on the season and to 2-0 in league play. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Tuesday when they travel to New Jersey City University. First pitch with the Gothic Knights is slated for 3:30 p.m.
