Brooklyn, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team posted a historic doubleheader sweep at Polytechnic on Sunday afternoon. In a 35-7 game one victory the Dolphins set program records

for runs scored, hits and RBI in a single game. The Mount completed the sweep of the league twinbill by posting a 5-1 win in game two in which Matt Calandrillo (Cold Spring, N.Y.) picked up his first career win on the mound.

In game one 14 different players hit safely for the Dolphins and of those 10 had at least two hits. The Mount also had four players with as many as four safeties in the game, with James Labartino (Holbrook, N.Y.) leading the way going 5-6 with five runs scored and five RBI.

Josh Cuozzo (Westbury, N.Y.) and Nick Triolo (Homer, N.Y.) each finished the game 4-7 with three runs scored. Cuozzo drove in five runs and Triolo collected three runs batted in for the Dolphins.

Mount Saint Vincent scored in five innings and posted four runs in the first, five in the second, nine in the third, 12 in the fourth and five more in the fifth. The previous record for runs in a game was set last April 30 in a 23-2 rout of Polytechnic in the opening round of the Skyline Conference Tournament.

Mike Trainor (Patterson, N.Y.) picked up the win for the Mount, firing a complete game. He allowed seven earned runs on nine hits and fanned a career-high 11 batters.

In game two of the set, Calandrillo held the Blue Jays to just one run on four hits to earn his first collegiate win in just his second start. He walked just three batters in the complete game outing and also struck out a career best 11 opposing batters.

The Mount was held to just nine hits in game two with Mike Ruckdaschel (East Meadow, N.Y.) leading the charge with a 2-4 effort, including a triple. Ruckdaschel and Anthony Masullo (Howard Beach, N.Y.) both drove in a pair of runs for the Dolphins.

With the sweep the Dolphins improved their overall record to 6-7 on the season and evened their Skyline mark to 2-2. Next up for the Dolphins is a date with Cortland St. on Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
