After Staten Island plated a pair of runs in the fifth inning, the Dolphins closed out the scoring in the bottom half of the frame when Mike Ruckdaschel (East Meadow, N.Y.) drew a bases load walk and Blackford singled to secure the Mount's second straight win.
Blackford and Kevin Coogan (Bronx, N.Y.) each finished with a pair of hits with McManus joining Blackford with a two RBI. Six different Dolphin players scored a run in game one.
Junior Mike Trainor (Patterson, N.Y.) picked up the win after his complete game effort. He worked 7.0 innings and allowed just two runs on five hits. He fanned four Staten Island hitters and walked three.

After Staten Island plated four in the top of the first, the Mount got a run back in the home half of the inning when Mike Pope (Massapequa, N.Y.) drove a double to left field to cut the Dolphins deficit to just three. Staten Island, though, would respond with four more runs in the second to jump in front 8-1 and cruise to the split.
