Offense Gives Mount Saint Vincent Doubleheader Win Over Purchase

Dolphins pound out 30 hits over two games

doubleheader at Purchase on Sunday afternoon by scores of 17-8 and 9-4. The sweep gives Mount Saint Vincent its third straight win and its 10th win in 11 games. Eddie Park (East Meadow, NY) had a big day for the Dolphins, going 6-10 with five runs and four RBI in the set.

On his birthday, Park was one of five Dolphins to record at least two hits in the 17-8 game one victory. The senior outfielder went 4-6 with three doubles, scored three runs and drove in a run. Josh Cuozzo (Westbury, NY) continued to swing a hot bat for the Mount, as he went 3-5 with a run scored and three RBI in the opener. Joe Blackford (Stewartsville, NJ), Al Schor (Norwalk, CT) and Brendan Russo (Westbury, NY) all finished the game with two hits.

Nine different players scored runs for the Mount in the first game, as it marked the sixth time this season the Dolphins have plated at least 15 runs in a game. Park, Schor and Tanner Munroe (Milford, CT) each scored three runs, while Logan Mauzy (Homer, NY) and Russo each crossed twice. Blackford and Munroe joined Cuozzo with three RBI each in the game.

Jon O'Leary (Bohemia, NY) earned the win for the Dolphins and pushed his record to 2-2 on the season. He worked 7.1 innings, allowing seven runs, six earned, on five hits. He struck out three in the winning effort. Nick Triolo (Homer, NY) came on for the final 1.2 innings and allowed one run on three hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out two.

In game two, the Dolphins came from behind to earn the 9-4 win with five runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth. Park picked up right where he left off, going 2-4 with two more runs scored and three RBI. Park picked up two more doubles, giving him five on the day.

After a 17 hit performance in game one, the Dolphins finished game two with 13. Four players recorded two hits, with Blackford, Cuozzo and John McManus (Bayside, NY) each collecting a pair. McManus and Russo also scored a pair of runs in the game, with Blackford picking up two more RBI to give him five in the set.

Freshman Mike Trainor (Patterson, NY) picked up the win in relief for the Mount and moved to 4-1 on the season. He worked the final 4.0 innings, surrendering just one earned run on four hits. He struck out four and walked three in helping Mount Saint Vincent to the sweep.

The sweep of Purchase improves the Mount's record to 16-12 overall on the season and to 9-5 in the Skyline Conference. The Dolphins will step outside the conference on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week when they travel to Centenary on April 22 and then host Baruch at Columbia University on April 23. Both games are scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
