James Puma (Thornwood, N.Y.) worked 8.0 strong innings for the Dolphins on the night and junior
John McManus (Queens, N.Y.) drove in the Mount's only run.
The Dolphins would break a scoreless tie in the top half of the seventh when McManus picked up a bases loaded walk. He pushed across Christian Lavery (Westbury, N.Y.) with the Mount's only run who also reached on a free pass.
In his first career tournament start, Puma held the Panthers scoreless until the eighth inning when Giovanni Jimenez picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly to left. That would be Puma's only blemish on the night as he allowed five hits and four walks in the outing. He did strike out a batter.
The two teams would remain tied at 1-1 until the 10th inning when the Panthers picked up the game winner after Jimenez struck again. After a pair of walks and an error in the inning Jimenez singled through the right side to send Old Westbury to the final four of the conference tournament this weekend at Farmingdale.
The Dolphins outhit the Panthers in the game 7-6 but left 14 runners on base in the tilt. James Labartino (Holbrook, N.Y.) and Mike Pope (Massapequa, N.Y.) each collected a pair of hits on the night for Mount Saint Vincent.
Dan Fordyce also threw a strong game on Tuesday, working the first 9.0 innings for Old Westbury in a no decision. Marvin Rosario came on to work the tenth inning and picked up his sixth win of the season. Senior Joe Blackford (Stewartsville, N.J.) was saddled with the loss in the contest after allowing a hit and two free passes in an inning of work.
The loss is Mount Saint Vincent's first ever in the opening round of the Skyline Conference Tournament and drops the Dolphins to 2-1 all-time on the first day of the event. Following Wednesday's loss the Mount stands at 15-21 overall on the season.
