pitched 3-0 decision in the nightcap. Junior
Mike Trainor (Patterson, N.Y.) worked his second straight complete game in the opener, while rookie
James Puma (Thornwood, N.Y.) worked 7.0 effective innings in game two.
The Dolphins jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in game one after plating an unearned run in the second inning. After Mike Pope (Massapequa, N.Y.) reached on a one out error, he was driven in on an RBI single from Kevin Coogan (Bronx, N.Y.) to push the Dolphins in front.
The Rams responded with what proved to be the game winning rally in the next half inning when they plated three runs. The big blow in the inning was a two run double from Mike Labrozzi that pushed across the eventual game winning run. Farmingdale St. would then go on to add insurance runs in the fourth and sixth innings to open a 5-1 advantage. Pope drove in a run in the eighth, but that would close the scoring in game one.
Trainor worked the complete 9.0 inning game for the second straight time in 2010. He allowed five runs on eight hits in the game, walking two and picking up one strikeout. Chris Phelan picked up the win after allowing just the one unearned run on seven hits in 5.2 innings of work. He walked two and fanned three for the Rams.
Pope and Coogan each went 2-for-4 in the contest with an RBI, while Pope and John McManus (Queens, N.Y.) picked up the runs scored.
In game two the Dolphins would manage only three base hits against Farmingdale St starter Ian Solomon. Solomon worked 5.0 innings to pick up the win, allowing two singles and a triple to James Labartino (Holbrook, N.Y.). He walked a pair and struck out nine Dolphins in the outing.
Puma was also effective for the Dolphins in game two, taking the hard luck loss for the Mount. After allowing a pair of runs in the first inning on three hits he settled in to allow just one more run and five hits the rest of the tilt. He did not record a strikeout and walked two batters.
The sweep at the hands of the Rams drops Mount Saint Vincent to 15-18 overall on the season and to 8-6 in league play. The Dolphins will step out of conference on Wednesday afternoon when they head to Ramapo. First pitch with the roadrunners is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
