The University of Mount Saint Vincent’s Department of Athletics announced Joseph Chojnacki as its leader of the women’s volleyball program beginning in the Fall of 2024. Chojnacki earned the title of head coach after a months-long search to replace former head coach Harris Boyes. He is currently in his second season at the helm of the program.
Chojnacki finished his first season with the Dolphins with a 5-17 record, including two Skyline Conference wins in 10 tries.
"I want to thank Mr. Stern and the selection committee for giving me this opportunity. I fell in love with the campus right away. I was also really impressed with what the school has to offer its students and really wanted to be a part of that,” Chojnacki told
UMSVAthletics.com. “I know there has been a history of success here and I want to get that back. I really feel not only does the athletic department truly support its coaches, but so does the administration and that is a really great feeling to have. I'm very honored to be here."
"I am thrilled to welcome Joe to the Dolpin family," stated Phil Stern, UMSV Director of Athletics and Recreation. "His experience at all levels of volleyball will help give our student-athletes a tremendous experience."
Chojnacki makes his way to Riverdale after a four-year stint at Division-I Saint Peter’s University, where he served as the head coach of the women’s volleyball program from 2019 through their 2022 campaign. Chojnacki found success both on and off the floor for the during a stretch that included limiting playing time due to the coronavirus pandemic, as the Peacocks had a total of 33 players named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s All Academic team.
Chojnacki’s D-I experience spans beyond Jersey City. He served on Fordham University’s women’s volleyball staff for the 2006 season and reprised his role at St. John’s University from 2015 through 2017.
Chojnacki was also promoted to head coach at Division-II Adelphi University from 2003 until 2006 after a two-year stint as an assistant coach for the Panthers in the previous two seasons.
Chojnacki is now tasked with overtaking a Dolphins team that is looking to return to prominence within the Skyline Conference. UMSV is noted as one of the premiere teams within the conference over the last decade, with the program earning two Skyline titles in both 2015 and 2018, as well as earning a playoff berth in seven of their last nine seasons.
"I am very excited to see what this team can do this coming season. I watched a lot of film from last year's matches and was really impressed with the level of talent this team has. There is also a lot of potential because the majority of the team is still pretty young. We definitely have something to build on and I'm anxious to start working with them,” continued Chojnacki. “I want to help them become better players and better people. I want them to understand it's a process, it takes time but together we can make this a program to really be proud of."
Chojnacki currently works for CNN as a studio operator and resides in Rockville Centre, New York with his wife Jean
