Michael Black is a highly accomplished lacrosse coach with over two decades of experience spanning collegiate, international, and elite high school lacrosse. Known for his offensive expertise, program-building ability, and commitment to developing the whole student-athlete, Black has coached at some of the most respected academic and athletic institutions in the United States and internationally.

Black brings a wealth of head coaching experience, most notably as the Varsity Head Coach at Lakeside School in Seattle, where he led a complete program transformation from 2021 to 2024. Under his leadership, the program experienced dramatic offensive improvement, including an 82% increase in offensive production early in his tenure and a breakthrough 7–3 season in 2024, highlighted by the program’s first 6–0 start since 1994. His leadership not only elevated on-field performance but also rebuilt the program’s culture, fostering strong relationships among players, families, and the broader school community.

Black has also served as the Senior National Team Head Coach for the Ugandan National Lacrosse Team, where he played a key role in developing the program and preparing the team for international competition. His efforts helped Uganda qualify for the World Lacrosse Championship, and he simultaneously established coach education initiatives to grow the sport’s infrastructure within the country. His international coaching résumé also includes serving as Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator for the Wales National Team, where he helped lead the team to a 5–2 record at the World Championships and improved their global ranking.

Black has also built and led successful programs at prestigious institutions including Culver Academies, Highland School, Boys’ Latin School, and The Newman School. As Head Coach at Highland School, his team scored 222 goals in a single season and advanced to both conference and state playoff rounds. During his time at Culver Academies, he helped lead the team to an 8–6 record and a top-four state ranking. At Boys’ Latin, he served as Offensive Coordinator and Head of Scouting, helping improve offensive production significantly and contributing to a 13–3 season and playoff appearance.

In addition to his head coaching roles, Black has extensive collegiate coaching experience, including positions at Anna Maria College, Franklin Pierce University, and Assumption College. As Offensive Coordinator at Anna Maria College, he built the program’s offensive structure and significantly increased scoring production, while mentoring multiple all-conference players. His collegiate coaching work has included recruiting, scouting, game planning, and player

Black’s influence extends beyond team coaching into national camps, player development, and instructional content. He has served as Camp Director for Game Breakers Lacrosse Camps at the University of Washington, overseen staff hiring and curriculum development, and coached at elite camps including Army West Point, Johns Hopkins, Penn State, Virginia, and the U.S. Naval Academy. He has also worked with Championship Productions, reviewing and contributing to instructional content from top collegiate programs.
