Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent kicked off their 2026 season in a major way.
The Dolphins played host to conference-rival Yeshiva University and downed the Maccabees in straight sets, en route to a sweep victory for win number one on the year. After a back and forth affair in set one (25-22), UMSV allowed just 17 total points over the final two.
It was a balanced attack for head coach
Joseph Chojnacki. Sophomore
Stephanie Rodriguez returned to the setter position and had an impressive opening night, leading the Dolphins with a strong all-around performance. The Bronx local recorded 17 assists, nine digs, and a team-high eight service aces.
Anna Nolasco,
Alysa Padgett and
Evelyn Starns each paced the offense with seven kills, while Padgett added three aces and a block.
Dominique Otranto and Sophia Mandalakis each contributed six kills, while Angelia Donnelly dished out 14 assists and added six digs in her collegiate debut. Carly Snyder and Gabrielle Mills each chipped in six digs as the Dolphins finished with a 39-5 advantage in kills and 17 service aces.
With the victory, Mount Saint Vincent opens the season at 1-0 both overall and in conference play and welcome Medgar Evers to Riverdale on Thursday.
