Purchase, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent erupted for three second-half goals Wednesday night, powering past Purchase College by three goals on the road.
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, junior Kerrigyn Lynam broke through just 54 seconds into the second half, finishing a chance set up by Eva Puentes and Marlene Segarra to give the Dolphins a 1-0 advantage. Lynam has emerged as a dynamic threat in her second year with UMSV, posting four goals with one assist in seven starts.
UMSV doubled its lead in the 72nd minute when senior Brittany Boyle headed home a cross from classmate Lily Ostiguy. Junior Caroline Gomes then capped the scoring in the 83rd minute, converting a pass from freshman Jazlene Saldana to make it 3-0.
The Dolphins controlled the match throughout, finishing with a commanding 39-4 advantage in shots and an 18-2 edge in shots on goal. UMSV also earned 12 corner kicks while limiting Purchase to none.
Lynam led the Dolphins with 10 shots, while Puentes added eight. Kaitlyn Grady recorded two saves to earn the shutout.
With the victory, UMSV improves to 3-3-1 overall and 2-0-1 in Skyline Conference play. They're set to take on Old Westbury in yet another conference tilt this weekend.
