Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent rallied from a halftime deficit Wednesday night, scoring twice in the second half to defeat Purchase College. The win down on Marillac Field ended a one game skid from the weekend.
After Purchase took a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute, the Dolphins answered early in the second half. Jose Gonzalez leveled the match in the 56th minute, heading home a pass from Marti Senyer to make it 1-1.
UMSV continued to pressure the Panthers and took the lead in the 77th minute when freshman Justin Sorto found the back of the net off an assist from classmate Daniel Figueroa. Sorto extended his team leading goal number to three in the victory.
The Dolphins finished with an 18-9 advantage in shots and put nine attempts on goal. The defensive unit, led by Jacob Greiffenberger, Jacob Doyle and Adam Klak, helped keep the Panthers offense in check. Jacob Rooney and Jenluis Henriquez each recorded two shots on target, while Miguel Fierro made two saves in goal.
With the victory, UMSV improves to 3-2-2 overall and 2-0-1 in Skyline Conference play. They'll look to continue their winning ways on the road this weekend against Old Westbury.
