Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Baruch College Saturday afternoon, putting UMSV at 2-2-2 overall through six games. The result was the Dolphins first regular season home loss in nearly two years, which came at the hands of Yeshiva University on September 29, 2024.
UMSV and Baruch played to a scoreless draw through the opening 39 minutes before the visitors broke through with a goal at the 39:14 mark. The Dolphins entered halftime trailing 1-0 despite three shots in the opening half.
The Dolphins generated increased pressure after the break, recording eight second-half shots. Freshman Justin Sorto registered three shots and two shots on goal, while senior Jose Gonzalez added a team-high four shots, including one on target. Freshman Jacob Rooney also recorded a shot off the crossbar in the opening half.
Baruch added its second goal in the 73rd minute to extend its advantage to 2-0. UMSV continued to push forward late, with Gonzalez hitting the crossbar in the 74th minute.
Miguel Fierro made three saves in goal for the Dolphins. UMSV finished with 11 shots, including three on goal, while earning one corner kick.
The Dolphins will look to right the ship on Wednesday when they return to Marillac Field for a home conference matchup against SUNY Purchase.
