Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent opened the 2026 campaign with a competitive 3-1 victory over John Jay College on Tuesday evening, picking up right where they left off last regular season when they went unbeaten.
The Dolphins faced adversity in their first action of the year, with the team falling behind in the 18th minute. UMSV, however, continued to prove resilience, responding just before halftime when Brandon Brad Leon found the back of the net in the 42nd minute off an assist from freshman Justin Sorto to even the score at 1-1 heading into the break.
The Dolphins took control in the second half, with the pace of play firmly in its favor. Sorto furthered his tremendous first collegiate contest, scoring what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 57th minute. Junior Marti Senyer added an insurance marker in the 78th minute to secure the season-opening victory.
The Dolphins held an 11-8 advantage in shots and placed six attempts on target. Senyer led UMSV with three shots, while Sorto finished the night with a goal and an assist. Joey Wiant made two saves to earn the victory in his first collegiate start in net.
The Dolphins remain at home for the next contest. It'll take place on Saturday when the team welcomes William Paterson to Riverdale.
