King's Point, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent held a late lead, but a United States Merchant Marine Academy goal in the final seconds of regulation pushed the Skyline Conference battle to a 1-1 tie.
Justin Sorto put the Dolphins in front in the 38th minute, scoring his second goal of the season to give UMSV a one goal advantage heading into halftime. UMSV recorded five shots in the opening 45 minutes, with Jenluis Henriquez putting two attempts on goal and Yahir Tafoya adding one.
USMMA applied pressure throughout the second half, but Miguel Fierro turned aside all seven of the shots he faced after halftime to keep the Dolphins in front. Fierro finished with seven saves overall while playing all 90 minutes.
The offense, meanwhile, continued to create opportunities in the second half, with Henriquez recording two additional shots, including one on goal, while Barry Jermaine Johnson and Jose Gonzalez also added attempts.
The Dolphins held the lead until the final minute of regulation, when the Mariners found the equalizer at 89:45. UMSV finished with nine shots, including four on goal, while Fierro's seven saves helped preserve the draw.
UMSV, now 2-1-2 overall, heads back to non-conference play in Riverdale on Saturday with a matchup against Baruch on the horizon.
