Factoryville, PA - The University of Mount Saint Vincent took part in three matches over two days at the Keystone College Spirit of Service Volleyball Classic, facing Keystone, Wilmington College and Cortland. The Dolphins went up against strong competition, and departed back to Riverdale with a 2-5 overall record.
The Dolphins opened the tournament Friday night with a 3-0 setback to Keystone, falling 25-20, 25-18 and 25-22. Anna Nolasco led UMSV with six kills and 12 digs, while Rebecca Talbert added four kills and Alysa Padgett contributed three kills, two aces and a block. Stephanie Rodriguez recorded five assists, two aces and six digs, while Angelia Donnelly added eight assists. Carly Snyder finished with seven digs.
UMSV returned to action on Saturday and battled Wilmington in three competitive sets, falling 25-20, 25-22 and 25-16. Nolasco again paced the Dolphins offensively with seven kills and 12 digs, while Talbert added six kills. Sophia Mandalakis chipped in four kills, and Dominique Otranto posted four blocks. Amya Aviles added three blocks, while Rodriguez finished with eight assists and eight digs. Gabrielle Mills led the defensive effort with 14 digs. The Dolphins totaled 26 kills, 55 digs and six blocks.
The Dolphins closed the tournament with a second game on Saturday evening, this time against Cortland, falling 25-9, 25-9 and 25-14. Padgett led UMSV with four kills, while Otranto and Mandalakis each added one. Snyder recorded eight digs and Jessica Broderick added six, while Padgett and Talbert each posted a block. Broderick and Evelyn Starns each served an ace, with Donnelly recording two assists.
UMSV will look to regroup as they enter the upcoming week with a showdown against the Pratt Institute on tap for September 17.
