Dolphins Finish Season With Skyline Playoff Appearance

Newburgh, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent was held scoreless in a 4-0 loss to Mount Saint Mary on the road in opening elimination game of the Skyline Conference Postseason Tournament.  The end result completed the Dolphins improbable playoff run, one that saw them sweep four games to clinch the final spot in the playoffs.

UMSV finished the season with a 15-25 overall and a 7-11 conference record.

The Dolphins collected four hits in the contest, with Zoe Fields leading the way by going 2-for-2 while also stealing a base. Kendra Rodriguez added a seventh-inning single, while Kailyn Trigos delivered a sixth-inning hit that helped spark UMSV's best scoring opportunity of the afternoon.

UMSV threatened early as Carmen Henderson drew a leadoff walk in the first inning and Fields followed with a single, but the Dolphins were unable to capitalize. Fields added another hit in the third and later stole second, while UMSV loaded traffic again in the sixth after Fields walked, Samantha Aviles reached on a fielder's choice, and Emma Capozucca drew a walk before Trigos singled to load the bases. The Knights went on to escape the jam to preserve the shutout.

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third when Mount Saint Mary scored an unearned run. The hosts added another run in the fourth before breaking things open with two more in the sixth to secure the 4-0 win.

Despite defeat, Gracie Laukkanen delivered arguably her best performance of the season. The sophomore kept her team in the game all afternoon long, allowing just one earned run on four hits with three strikeouts.

The program is losing a strong crop of seniors, but the returning roster, coupled with an incoming recruiting class, will put the Dolphins in a position to make a playoff push in 2027.
