Bronxville, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent needed to win four games in four attempts this weekend to stay in playoff contention, and the Dolphins did just that. After the Dolphins dominated Yeshiva University on Friday morning, they earned two victories over Sarah Lawrence College by the scores of 12-0 and 4-0. The successful stretch moved UMSV into sixth place, good for its fourth straight playoff berth and a first round matchup against Mount Saint Mary College on Tuesday.Â
The Dolphins impressed offensively in game one. Emma Capozucca got things started with a two-run single in the first inning before Carmen Henderson added an RBI single in the second. Samantha Aviles also delivered an RBI single in the frame, and the Dolphins broke the game wide open in the third when Kendra Rodriguez drove in a run before Henderson launched a three-run homer. Capozucca added another RBI hit in the fourth, Kaitlyn Trigos brought home a run later in the inning and Zoe Fields and Aviles each added RBI singles in the fifth to cap the scoring.
Game two featured another strong all-around effort in a 4-0 victory. Capozucca opened the scoring with an RBI groundout in the first inning, and Aviles delivered the biggest hit of the game with a two-run single in the third. Henderson added a sacrifice fly in the fourth to provide insurance as the Dolphins secured their second shutout of the day.
Savannah Autobee earned the win in game one, allowing just two total baserunners with five strikeouts in five innings. Gracie Laukkanen was equally impressive in game two with a 13-strikeout shutout.Â
The Dolphins are set to challenge the Knights in a single elimination game beginning at 4 PM.Â
