Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent and Manhattanville University both put on fantastic efforts on both ends of the field, but it was the Dolphins who came up short in a tightly contested matchup, falling 8-6 in Skyline Conference action.
The loss evened UMSV's conference record to 1-1 on the year.
The Dolphins impressed throughout a back-and-forth first half, responding quickly to an early Manhattanville goal with scores from Chai Dunlap and Mattias Remes to take a 2-1 lead. After Manhattanville evened the score late in the first quarter and added another in the second, Remes found the net on a man-up opportunity off a feed from Dunlap to send the teams into halftime tied at 3-3.
The third quarter remained competitive, with Dunlap and Nigel Walker each scoring to give UMSV a 5-4 advantage.Â
The Valiants, however, responded with two late goals in the period to regain a 6-5 lead heading into the fourth.
Manhattanville added two more goals to extend its lead in the final quarter before the Dolphins mounted a late push. Isaac Parsons scored in the closing minutes off an assist from Walker, but the Dolphins were unable to complete the comeback.
Dunlap led the Dolphins offensively with two goals and two assists, while Remes added two strikes. Both Walker and Parsons had a goal and an assist each in the contest.Â
The defense played extremely well all evening, and was led by Max Mills, who had arguably the best game of his collegiate career. The sophomore made 18 saves while keeping his team in game across the 60 minutes of action.Â
Marquis Gardner, Brandon Mestres and Walker Moore each had three caused turnovers, while Miguel Cordero and Jackson Taylor added one each. Harrison Chapman, Jakob Mahon and Donte Thornhill all contributed defensively, keeping the Valiants below double digit goals.Â
Despite the end result, the Dolphins will look to carry Wednesday's momentum into Friday when they welcome Mount Saint Mary to Riverdale.Â
